DYE AND THREAD

An experimental mix of Shipibo embroidery techniques, Nui Shibori (Japanese resist dye using stitching), mahogany and avocado dye, and stick painting to develop and transfer drawings during a 3 month study of song and healing traditions in the community of San Francisco de Yarinacocha near Pucallpa, Peru.

Particular gratitude to Nora Ramos, Manuela Fasanando, Pilar Godoy Cortez of Nido Textil, and Paulina Irazabal of SITTAKA for tending and bridging local textile traditions.
