CNC WOODBLOCK
a test engraving
I used the Roland MDX-540 CNC Router at NextFab for woodblock engraving during an intro workshop.
I wanted to know the material limits of the engraving process and identify considerations and steps for future project investments. I used a two-tone digital pattern from my design inventory that would also test how the machine handled a complex image.
This project is part of an immersion in artisanal fabric design and the cultural intersections of various techniques. My top concerns include the production footprints and social impacts of different processes — including what material relationships I would be willing to engage based on who I am and where I come from.
